THE MEI ZEN COSMETIC ACUPUNCTURE SYSTEM:

Scroll down for before and after photos!

The Mei Zen Cosmetic Acupuncture system is a patented
technique that uses a very shallow needling style based on
ancient methods. Reported benefits of this system include:

                                                           -  Soften fine lines and wrinkles
                                                           -  Improve skin tone and texture
                                                           -  Tighten and lift the jaw line
                                                           -  Restore brightness and vitality to the
                                                               complexion

Just like classical acupuncture, Mei Zen is rooted in the
foundation of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Each
treatment is tailored individually to the patient and imbalances are addressed as part of every treatment. As a result, many patients also experience a variety of beneficial "side effects" from their cosmetic treatments. These side effects may include:

-  Improved sleep, digestion, and energy and reduction of hot flashes.

The recommended course of treatment for cosmetic acupuncture is ten treatments - two per week for five consecutive weeks. The initial consultation (which is FREE of charge) includes a discussion about the Mei Zen system and the patient's goals, as well as a brief health assessment. The health assessment helps the acupuncturist determine an individualized treatment specifically for you.

An important part of cosmetic acupuncture is that beauty begins on the inside, and good health is the first step toward beautiful skin. As a result, at-home acupressure routines and lifestyle, diet and herbal advice concerning skin health and radiance are also offered.

Cosmetic acupuncture can also address acne, Bells Palsy and rosacea.

How does it work?

The skin is the body's largest organ, and it's health is greatly affected by illnesses or  imbalances in the rest of the body.  When qi (pronounced "chee"), or energy, becomes stagnant as a result of illness or aging, the skin may suffer from lack of nourishment.  Loss of elasticity, sagging, or wrinkles may result.

Cosmetic acupuncture is a protocol that involves needling at specific points on the face to help move qi properly through the facial channels.  This helps revitalize the skin by bringing qi to the necessary areas. Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, brighter, softer, more evenly-toned skin and a tighter jaw line are the intended result.

In Mei Zen, the needles are inserted to a depth of 3-4mm.  This is very shallow and puts the tip of the needle into the layer of the skin called the dermis, where collagen production occurs.  The presence of needles in the dermis is said to increase the production of collagen and elastin.
